As a video of a group of migrant workers in India being sprayed with chemical solutions went viral on the Internet, an investigation has been conducted to find out the truth behind this outrageous act.

The Indians featured in the video are believed to be migrant workers who were on their way back to Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

As a 21-day lockdown is imposed across India, millions of workers who found themselves in great hardship in big cities have decided to return to their villages.

The video has attracted the special attention of the public as it gained over 40,000 views shortly after being uploaded. It shows a group of migrant workers squatting on the ground while officials in hazmat suits sprayed some kind of chemical solution on them.

In the full video, the officials gave instructions to people on the ground to close their eyes and mouths via loudspeakers.

According to the district magistrate of Bareilly, the video is being investigated and those featured in it are under the Chief Minister's Office’s supervision.

He wrote that the officials of the fire department and the Bareilly Municipal Corporation were ordered to disinfect buses but they also sprayed the chemicals on workers out of enthusiasm.

The video has caused anger on Twitter. Some even ask if India “disinfects” those landing in the country too. Some confirm that this act is not part of the protocols at train stations or bus stations.

Ever since the lockdown order was imposed on March 24, several other videos like this have emerged, showing how migrant workers are treated.

Most of these people live on daily wage and as the CO.VID-19 outbreak strikes, they are now of work and also money to sustain their lives. Out of desperation, they are rushing home on buses or even on foot. Some have exhausted on collapsed on the way.
