A top police official from Maharashtra recently warned that China’s cyber attacks had increased substantially.

On Tuesday, Special Inspector General of Police of Maharashtra Cyber, Yashasvi Yadav, stated that information about cyber attacking attempts over the last five days of Chinese hackers had been gathered. Most of them were from China’s Chengdu area.

The cyber attacks were causing issues including phishing, hijacking Internet Protocol, and denial of service.

Chinese hackers have been known for carrying out such attacks globally. In April this year, Blackberry Ltd. in a shocking report, revealed that Chinese government-sponsored hackers stole computers’ data for around a decade.

And its target was Linux operating systems. The report which is 44 pages long, highlighted that the software tools that the Chinese hackers used were camouflaged as advertisements. And with this, the hackers then extracted information from their targeted systems.

In May, U.S officials made a similar allegation, warning that Chinese hackers were trying to hack into U.S healthcare facilities, especially those researching COVID-19 and stealing their data.

Internet users in India should be careful of such cyber attacks, create robust firewalls, and carry out cyber security audits, the IGP recommended.
