Cyber attacks of state-sponsored Chinese hackers aren’t restricted to land systems as they even target India’s satellite communications.

State-sponsored Chinese hackers have long been criticized for targeting several nations. And for over a decade, the country has been conducting cyber attacks on India, its neighboring country. A new report states that these cyber attacks aren’t restricted to land systems as they even target India’s satellite communications.

The claims can be found in a new study from the US-based China Aerospace Studies Institute. The report points out counter-space activities carried out by China since 2007.

State-sponsored Chinese hackers have long been criticized for targeting several nations.

In the 142-page report, China has been mentioned to conduct numerous cyber attacks in the period from 2012 to 2018. In 2012, in a notable attack, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA was targeted.

In 2017, the country continued to attack Indian satellite communications. China’s goal was to disrupt the satellite systems of the neighboring country. ISRO, while admitting that it has been attacked, still says that its systems haven’t been compromised.

Meanwhile, TOI reports that many scientists at ISRO are clueless about the origins of the cyber attacks targeting the Indian space agency.

K Sivan, ISRO chairman also denied such a cyber attack on the country’s ground stations. He highlighted that the country had an isolated and independent network that had no connection to the public domain, even the Internet to protect its safety.

Countries have been working on counter-space technology. For example, last year, India demonstrated its Anti-Satellite missile technology with a “kinetic kill” option to destroy enemy satellites.
