The donator had the project “Mask to Go” announced on his official Instagram account on Monday, April 6.

In particular, by the end of this April, 10 million face masks will be distributed in 35 vending machines located in 18 different areas. Each person is allowed to own a pack of five masks every week via a smart redemption card which is obtained through online registration. By doing this, residents won’t have to wait in such long lines for their free masks and social distancing will be guaranteed.

The first target of the program aims at 40,000 impoverished people, who have no other choice but to reuse the mask due to current supply shortages.

According to Cheng, their prime purpose is to both maintain social distancing and help the underprivileged get provided with the most fundamental health services, which represent in the medical face masks. With the help of these hygienic vending machines, an adequate supply of face masks will safely meet the demand of those in need.

"Mask to Go" program

“Mask to Go” will be mounted in mid-April with the expected supply reaches 200,000 masks per day. Especially, it is estimated to provide more than 7 million medical face masks monthly when it hits the peak.

Cheng’s company owns two mask production line manufacturing certified medical masks that can filter 98% of particles, which is much more qualified than the mass-produced ones currently.

Although confirmed COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong has decreased considerably, the numbers now seem to have risen up in recent weeks after the measures taken to eliminate the outbreak were loosen.
