Nearly 15 years after Bajaj Chetak’s production was discontinued, this legendary two-wheeler is said to return in India. As per Financial Express, the new scooter will be called “Chetak Chic Electric” and it will become the first-ever e-scooter from Bajaj to be unveiled on 16 October.
The report also revealed that the new bike will debut under the company’s Urbanite brand offering all-electric models, beginning with the upcoming Chetak. The brand launch event is called “Hamara Kal” (Our Past/Future), which somewhat relates to the “Hamara Bajaj” (Our Bajaj) advertising campaign of the company in the early 90s.
Notably, the new e-scooter has been spotted several times during the test runs in areas around the factory of Bajaj near Pune. However, it’s the first time that people know about its name. As per FE, the upcoming release event will have the participation of Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Amitabh Kant, NITI Aayog’s CEO.
Furthermore, reports reveal that being different from the first-gen Chetak, the new scooter is positioned to be a high-end offering with the price tag of up to Rs. 1 lakh in India where the traditional mass-market scooters only cost around 50%.
The upcoming scooter is expected to take on the likes of various models like Ather 450. The device is tipped to come with new quality features such as a retro-modern design as well as a rounded headlamp which allegedly is an all-LED unit coupled with LED DRLs. Whether the vehicle is able to attract buyers at this price tag remains unknown, but with the nostalgia factor, the brand is expected to have a successful come back in India.
