A couple of weeks ago, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev claimed that his group Patanjali was working on a cure for COVID-19. And yesterday, he launched the drug, dubbed Coronil, at the Patanjali’s headquarters in Uttarakhand.
The Yoga guru claims that this Hindi medicine can cure the disease although scientists around the world are still struggling to find a cure.

At the launch of the drug, Ramdev said that it was challenging to come up with a clinically tested, evidence-based medicine. Coronil comes in a Divya Corona Kit that also includes another tablet and oil.
The Patanjali group claimed that Coronil and Swasari have 100% effectiveness in clinical trials with coronavirus-infected patients.
As of now, there haven’t been any independent experts commenting on the group’s claims. Hours after the launch of the drug, the Union Ministry of Ayush asked the group to provide details on Coronil as well as the studies it conducted. In addition, the Ministry said that Patanjali should halt promotion for this drug and stop publicizing its claims until the details are examined.
Coronil components
According to Ramdev, the drug is made of Ayurvedic elements, saying there are over 100 compounds in Coronil.
The Yoga guru said that the drug is a combination of natural immunity-boosting substances like Giloy (moonseed), Ashwagandha (Indian ginseng), Mulethi (liquorice), and Tulsi (basil).
He also mentioned other immunity boosters in the launch. Though Ayurvedic substances have been recommended by the Ministry of Ayush for boosting immunity in the pandemic, clinical studies haven’t proven its effectiveness against the coronavirus.
Coronil price
Patanjali Ayurved MD Acharya Balkrishna said that the entire kit costs Rs 545, including medicines for use in 30 days. The kit consists of Coronil and other immunity-boosting Ayurvedic medicines.
At the same time, Ramdev said the kit will be provided for people below the poverty line, for free.
Where to buy Coronil
According to Ramdev, the kit will be sold at Patanjali stores around India within this week. Plus, the company is rolling out the OrderMe app for home delivery service.
How to use
The description of the medicine says:
“2-2 tablets should be consumed with hot water half an hour after meals. The above-mentioned drug intake and quantity is suitable for people between 15 to 80 years of age. Half the amount of the above-mentioned medicines can be used for children between the age of 6 to 14 years.”
Alongside this medicine, patients will also have to consume Shwasari to strengthen the respiratory system and cure COVID-19 symptoms, as well as Anu Tel to build immunity, according to the company.
Patanjali said that the kit can also prevent the coronavirus infection.
Does it work as claimed?
Despite its claims about the effectiveness of this medicine, the group hasn’t released the full findings of the study. And the use of Coronil hasn’t been approved by any independent medical bodies yet.
“We've prepared the first Ayurvedic-clinically controlled, research evidence and trial-based medicine for Covid-19. We conducted a clinical case study and clinical-controlled trials and found that 69 patients recovered in 3 days and 100 per cent patients recovered in 7 days.”
This is Ramdev’s claim, yet to be examined.
