Noida authorities have installed tire killers to prevent people from driving and riding on the wrong side of the road.
Noida's authorities have set up tire killers in the city, this is another attempt to stop people from driving on the wrong side of the roads. According to police officials, there are five most popular locations of wrong side driving.
Times of India reported that Noida has just installed one tire killer on the streets between Sector 77 and 74. Next, the authorities have plans to set up tire killers near Sector 16A overpass, Sector 77 North Eye Sai intersection and Mandir U-Turn at Sector 16.
Technically, tire killers are speed breakers integrated with spikes. When drivers go on the right side, these tire killers are like regular speed breakers, but when they go on the wrong side, the spikes kick in.
However, since the killers were installed, the number of road accidents has increased because of wrong side driving. According to a report from HT, these tire killers can take down even large vehicles with 40 tonnes of load.
Each meter of this killers costs about Rs 17,000 and Noida has installed 11 meters of killers on one side of the road along with banners saying ‘Savdhan Tyre Killer!’
Ironically, after being installed for only a few days, several tire killers were broken, and the city authorities think someone did this.
Rajeev Tyagi, general manager of Noida Authority, said that they are repairing the tire killers and will make them permanent using a slope of bitumen.
Last year, Pune authorities installed similar tire killers in the Amanora Township, but they had problems when local residents were afraid there would be accidents, or the killers would damage cars with low floors.
