As reported by Business Insider from an internal email that they have obtained, Google will cancel its tradition this year on the purpose of showing respect for those who are fighting the COVID-19 epidemic. Google claimed that the first and foremost duty now is to help people; therefore, they will save the jokes for next April, which is believed to be much brighter than the current one.

In addition, Google’s head of marketing Lorraine Twohill also said in his email that they had already stopped centralizing April Fool’s project, but there would be probably some smaller unpublicized ones with teams. He emphasized that any jokes, both internal and external, must be rejected right away as the announcement was made clear to every employee of the company.

No matter what people opine the internet April Fools' Day jokes, it’s hard to consider Google’s decision as a dumb one. It is obvious that during the uncontrollable health crisis in the USA and the world, a day full of misleading news, misinforming features to critical products like Google search, Youtube, Gmail, or Maps will undoubtedly a bad idea.

It is expected that other companies will follow Google’s pioneer to change their minds about their April Fools’ Day projects. It always enough time and place for jokes, but this is definitely not this time.
