Recently, Apple fired one of its Apple Store staff after this person stole from an iPhone user personal data, which turned out to be private photos.
This incident happened in an Apple Store in Valley Plaza shopping mall in Bakersfield, California. Apple stated that the actions of the employee were against the strict security regulations that the company had set for all of its employees. And therefore, firing this employee is the least that the company could do.
Gloria Fuentes, a resident from Bakersfield, is the customer whose private information was stolen. At the time of the incident, she brought her iPhone to Apple Valley Plaza to have her screen fixed. She said one of the staff took her iPhone away to test it before returning the phone to her. When she returned home, she received a message from this employee. The message included a photo that was described as “extremely private” of her and was taken directly from the iPhone that she took for a screen replacement.
Fuentes uploaded this photo on her Facebook around a year ago. If that employee did take her photo from Facebook, he would have to scroll and search for quite some time.
Right after the incident was reported to Apple, the company immediately opened an internal investigation. The company stated that the employee had had inappropriate actions and violated the company’s rules. Therefore, the dismissal decision was enforced.
Gloria Fuentes also reported the case to the Bakersfield Police and an investigation has been carried out. This employee may be charged for invading customer’s privacy.
