Do you remember how long it took the 4G LTE support to actually come several years ago? It took a long time, didn’t it? The same thing will happen for the 5G network.
With the fifth generation of wireless network, carriers across the globe will gradually broaden their networks, the busiest areas will be the first to get this upgrade. Unless you are living in a major city or location to among those in the first wave of 5G release, you will have to wait in envy while watching other users enjoy the long-anticipated high-speed Internet connection. For example, the first markets for Verizon’s 5G include Minneapolis and Chicago where users can now use the next-generation network. And the first test on 5G will either make you even more jealous or give you proof why it’s worth the wait.
Verizon offers the 5G network with its compatible phone
While it may take a few years to actually have the 5G speeds we want, early tests show that 5G is already much faster than LTE in normal conditions. David Veissmann, posted a testing clip on Twitter, indicating a speed of 760Mbps in Minneapolis. We know, that’s impressive.
CNET also posted its own clip showing 5G speed test in Chicago and the speeds registered more than 516Mbps. Remember that this is not the highest speed we expect with 5G, but compared with 4G, 5G clearly has a faster download speed.
As can be seen in the video, 5G is only available in select areas, which means you may get 5G here and there, or else you will fall back to 4G.
Meanwhile, Engadget’s Chris Velazco conducted its own speed test on the 5G in Chicago also with the Moto Z3 attached with a 5G Moto Mod at the phone’s bottom. In this test, the network speed reached almost 600Mbps, nearly four times 4G LTE speeds.
Velazco also said that the connection is “very finicky,” but it took only 4.5 minutes to download the 1.81GB PUBG app.
If you live in Minneapolis or Chicago, you can only use the 5G by using Verizon’s only 5G-enabled phone, the Moto Z3 attached with 5G Moto Mod. Otherwise, you can wait another few weeks to get the upcoming Samsung S10 5G.
