E-Commerce Giant Alibaba Trains AI To Diagnose COVID-19 In Seconds

According to a report from Nikkei Asian Review magazine, the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is working on a new AI system for the COVID-19 (aka coronavirus) detection.

Alibaba said in a statement that its AI-enabled system can diagnose patients via their CT scans of chests to detect the coronavirus, citing a dedicated accuracy of 96%. What’s more, the AI only needs 20 seconds for overall determination while we averagely take around 15 minutes to conclude the final result of people’s illness after observing up to 3000 images of scans.

As usual, engineers at Alibaba have trained the AI system with data and images from 5,000 confirmed cases before launching this smart image-reading service in hospitals and medical camps all over the country. As reported by Nikkei, Alibaba’s system now is made available to at least 100 healthcare facilities throughout China.

However, it’s not the only tool developed for addressing the coronavirus outbreak. Ping An, a renowned healthcare organization in China, also introduced its own system that is considered similar to which Alibaba developed.

Alibaba’s co-president Geoff Kau claims that more than 5,000 Chinese patients have received such a diagnosis without having to pay a fee.

Of course, the more solutions we create, the better achievements we receive. While doctors in not only China but also in other countries like South Korea and Italy get exhausted by a massive number of suspected and infected patients, they’ll be able to complete the work much more effectively owing to faster and better outcomes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
