Avio Interiors, an Italian design company, has recently come up with a new design for two types of airplane seats to keep passengers safe, especially when the novel COVID-19 pandemic has not yet passed.
The designs are possible solutions to the problem of someone sitting near you on flight coughing or sneezing, even if there is no deadly virus lurking around in the air.
The concept is called Glasssafe and it is described to be a kit-level solution that we can install right on the existing airplane chairs, separating passengers. In simpler terms, the concept involves installing transparent blinders on the two sides of the airplane chairs.
The material will help passengers minimize contact with others and also the chance of virus passing from one to another.
The other concept, or the two-faced seat called the Janus Seat, is a design that will put three passengers in positions that they have no direct contact to each other. There are also transparent shield dividing them. See the picture below to understand how this concept works.
However, the second concept will require a total rearrange of airplane seats as it is not as easy as adding transparent shields to divide seats.
The designs are cool but they are not the only concepts that Avio has on its portfolio. A few years ago, it came up with the Skyrider airplane seats, designed to cut even more room and squeeze in more seats into an airline cabin. Just when you wonder how more uncomfortable traveling on an airplane can be.
