After Divorce, Jeff Bezos’ Ex-Wife Becomes The World’s Richest Woman

MacKenzie Scott – a philanthropist, book-author, and ex-wife of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has just become the wealthiest woman in the world.

Scott’s current total assets have now reached $68 billion, surpassing the heiress of L’Oreal cosmetics group Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, according to Bloomberg. Scott is currently ranked 12th in the worldwide rankings.

After the couple divorced in 2019, Scott received a quarter of Jeff Bezos’ Amazon shares. That is equivalent to 4% of the company’s shares and worth more than $35 billion.

In July, Scott announced that she had donated nearly $1.7 billion to 116 organizations including universities and colleges for a variety of purposes, from tackling gender inequality to climate change.

Last year, Scott signed The Giving Pledge, an initiative of Warrant Buffett, Bill and Melinda Gates. The initiative encourages wealthy people to donate their wealth to charity.

Amazon shares have soared recently, up to 28% in the last three months, and more than 90% this year. That increase has brought Jeff Bezos’ fortune to $200 billion.
