A Single Spin Of This Wind Turbine Can Power Your Home For 2 Days

The new turbine can generate 312 MWh per day, setting a new world record for being the largest wind turbine ever and surpassing its predecessor.

It’s undeniable that windmills are powerful structures that generate clean energy. However, some people may still think that they cannot produce enough electricity for our communities. This may eventually change thanks to the new Vineyard Wind project.

The developers of this project have recently announced that they will use the GE Haliade-X wind turbine, which is probably the largest in the world with an impressive capacity of 13 megawatts.

Lars T. Pedersen, the chief executive officer of Vineyard Wind, said in a statement:

“The selection of GE as our preferred turbine supplier means that a historic American company will play a vital role in the development of the first commercial scale offshore wind power in the U.S. This is a huge moment not only for the future of our project but also for the future of an industry that is poised for exponential growth in the coming decades.”

The new turbine can generate 312 MWh per day, an amount 8% higher than the previous GE Haliade-X model with a capacity of 12 MW. This turbine, which is located at the port of Maasvlakte-Rotterdam, Netherlands, has already set a world record for being the first wind turbine to produce 262 MWh in a day, an amount enough to power 30,000 homes.

An energy analyst from the Union of Concerned Scientists calculated and found that the new turbine can generate enough energy for every need of a typical home in seven seconds only. In addition, GE claims that one spin of the new GE Haliade-X turbine can produce enough power for a home to use in two days.

It’s worth noting that due to the massive power of the turbine, we need fewer of them to meet the energy requirement, meaning less effort and space is needed to build them.
