Google & DeepMind Are Using AI To Predict Wind Power Output

Google’s global crew is now aiming at a project to use renewable energy to create as much energy as needed for a medium-sized city.

Google has partnered with DeepMind, its Britain-headquartered subsidiary which specializes in artificial intelligence research, to develop a machine learning algorithm to predict the productivity of wind power output before 36 hours.

According to Google, this prediction helps increase the value of wind power and helps the wind energy business become stronger. This contributes to the worldwide widespread use of non-carbon electric energy systems.

Will Fadrhonc, Leader of Carbon Free Energy Program and Sims Witherspoon, DeepMind's Programme Manager wrote in their blog post last week. For nearly a decade, the presence of wind farms has provided a lot of clean, carbon-free power and a lot of cost savings for turbines. So many parts of the world have applied wind power generation systems.

Improving this issue is the goal for Google and DeepMind to embark on research solutions. They provide machine learning (ML) algorithms for 700MW of the wind energy capacity to generate electricity for offices and data centres in the US.

Google’s global crew is now aiming at a project to use renewable energy to create as much energy as needed for a medium-sized city. And these wind farms are part of this project.

The researchers have used a neural network, which derives from the data of historical turbine and weather forecasts, to configure this system, and so, they can predict the output of wind power 36 hours sooner than it is now.

This is very important in the power supply by the anticipated, scheduled or expected source of electrical energy, which will be much more valuable to the electric grids worldwide.
