Indians seem to have an admirable belief in the government in this COVID-19 pandemic, at least that’s what we could see from a new survey conducted by India Today. The survey, published in August 2020, got responses from 12,021 people around the country. Out of these, respondents from the western and eastern parts are more positive.
Overall, 77% of all respondents said that they believe in India’s healthcare infrastructure in times like this. But 18% of them said they do not trust the healthcare system of the country. As we have witnessed, the COVID-19 pandemic has heavily attacked the healthcare system, bringing it to the brink of collapse.
Due to the pandemic, there has been a serious shortage of hospital beds in cities like Mumbai and Delhi, forcing them to set up temporary facilities in other places such as wedding halls. In Delhi, train coaches were turned into COVId-19 care centers while Mumbai has set up COVID-19 facilities in a planetarium and stadium.
The result of this survey was released on the Mood of the Nation on India Today’s official website. The survey was carried out by the research agency from July 15 to July 27 this year. Traditionally, the survey involves face-to-face interviews. But with the ongoing situation, the interviews were all completed on the phone using a standard questionnaire translated into regional languages.
In total, the research center carried out 12,021 interviews, including 67% in the rural and 33% in urban areas, in 194 assembly constituencies and 97 parliamentary constituencies across 19 states. The sates include Karnataka, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Odisha, Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Haryana, Gujarat, Assam, and Delhi.
