The design of Tesla’s Cybertruck was meant to catch people’s attention. And it worked. The company’s founder, Elon Musk, has always been known for his love for popular culture. With the unveiling of the Cybertruck, here are some pop culture vehicles and references that may have been the inspiration for the cyberpunk-style car.
1. James Bond

Since the early days of Tesla, Elon Musk has mentioned the influence that the Lotus car of James Bond has had on Tesla. Tesla’s Roadster was inspired by the Lotus Elise.
Not so long ago, there were rumors saying that the company had been working on a submarine car that was inspired by James Bond’s Lotus Esprit in The Spy Who Loved Me.
While Tesla’s Cybertruck isn’t a submarine, it also got its inspiration from James Bond. On his Twitter account, Elon Musk confirmed that James Bond The Spy Who Loved Me partly inspired the Cybertruck.
2. Total Recall
@vander_living, a Twitter user, posted a side-by-side image showing the resemblance between the Tesla Cybertruck and some of the vehicles in the Hollywood movie Total Recall.
But the truth is, a number of sci-fi movies could be added to this list like Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi film from the 90s, Blade Runner, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Akira.
3. Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 looks similar to Blade Runner: The Game, so it isn’t surprising to find there are some similarities between it and the Tesla Cybertruck.
The game being released this year is set in the sci-fi future world with Keanu Reeves and a cyberpunk aesthetic.
Of course, no company actually owns the cyberpunk theme but its choice of logo reminds us of Tesla’s logo.
4. The Delorean

A list consists of pop culture inspirations would be incomplete if we don’t mention the most famous futuristic-looking vehicle of all time: the Delorean.
The vehicle is so iconic that it is practically playing the main character in the movie Back to the Future. The Delorean is a symbol that can never be replaced of the 80’s cinema.
5. Jawa Sandcrawler

Another Twitter pointed out that the edges of the Cybertruck look so jagged, it looks like it is from the 90s videogames.
The Sandcrawler appeared in Star Wars. The vehicle is all about edges and its speed isn’t comparable to that of a sports car, though.
6. Meme culture
Elon Musk is the king of memes. And he is loving everything that Internet users are saying about the Cybertruck.
The car was obviously designed by a man who is a meme lover and a master at promoting his products.
