Huawei Nova 6 SE Hands-On: Another Great Mid-Range Phone From Huawei

The Huawei Nova 6 SE is a mid-range smartphone from Huawei that launched early this month. It is one of the three smartphones that the company announced in the new Nova 6 series. To help you know more about the phone, we will go through all the details of the phone, including cameras, performance, and design.

Almost all of Huawei's Nova models bring new design trend and Nova 6 SE is no exception. If you look at the rear panel, you will easily recognize the unique feature is the large square camera cluster like the one on the iPhone 11 Pro. However, the Huawei Nova 6 SE has 4 camera sensors, instead of the three cameras found on the latest Apple devices. The flash is no longer be in the camera module and moved below.

The material used by Huawei on the new phone is a glass with 3D curved edges. Complete with gradient gradients, it has a unique look on Nova 6 SE at different angles or lighting. Like Nova 6, Huawei Nova 6 SE also does not have a fingerprint reader on the back or on the screen. The sensor will be mounted on the side power button of the phone, placed just below its volume rocker.

The fingerprint scanner's response time is quite fast and very accurate. In addition, I find that it is more convenient to place the fingerprint sensor on the side instead of at the back. On the side, Huawei places a memory card slot for the ability to support two nano SIMs or a nano memory card and a nano-SIM card (expandable up to 256 GB).

The bottom of the smartphone has a Type-C port with fast charging, microphone, main speaker and 3.5mm audio jack. Meanwhile, an additional noise cancellation microphone and infrared sensor are placed on the top edge of the Huawei Nova 6 SE.

On the front, the handset has a 6.4-inch screen with Full HD + resolution. The screen technology is IPS LCD with good colour reproduction, contrast and viewing angles. In the top left corner of the phone, there is a hole containing the front camera but not the dual selfie cameras like the Nova 6 or the Galaxy S10 Plus.

The frames around its display, especially the side edges, are quite thin, but at the bottom, you can see a fairly thick chin. Therefore, the screen-to-body ratio of Huawei Nova 6 SE stopped at 83.5%i. Overall, the device is slightly smaller than the Nova 6, measuring 159.2x76.3x8.7 mm and weighing about 183 grams.

Powering the Huawei Nova 6 SE is the Kirin 810 processor, which is manufactured using the 7 nm process. Of course, the processor isn't new, because the Chinese company has equipped other phones like Nova 5, Huawei P Smart, Honor 9X,... The processor has good performance thanks to the eight cores, which are two Cortex-A76 cores with a 2.27 GHz clock speed and six Cortex-A55 cores with a 1.88 GHz clock speed.

In terms of memory configuration, the Huawei Nova 6 SE comes in a single 8GB RAM / 128GB storage variant. One of the advantages of this device is the EMUI 10 pre-installed user interface based on the latest Android 10 version. Combining with those is a fairly large 4200 mAh battery, which can help the phone last a full day with just one charge. It also supports 40W fast charging, so you won’t have to wait too long for the recharge.

Regarding the camera, we have 4 lenses present at the rear of the Nova 6 SE. The main camera is a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with an aperture of f / 1.8, the second one is an 8-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f / 2.4 for ultra-wide-angle photography. The third and forth sensor are a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, the Huawei Nova 6 SE has a 16-megapixel camera and an aperture of f / 2.0. 

The Huawei Nova 6 SE is priced at RMB 2,199 (around Rs. 22,000) for the 8GB RAM / 128GB storage model.
