Smartphones are getting better and better, but battery life and charging remain a challenge for manufacturers. One of the problems is that the charging speed hasn’t matched the increasing battery capacity, which means longer battery life means more time required for full charges, which we can’t always afford.
Some brands are already offering 50W fast charging capabilities like OnePlus and Oppo, but others remain far behind. And now, it’s Xiaomi’s turn and its new technology is pretty impressive.
The Chinese phone maker has been developing its charging technology to raise speeds with its latest revealing during its Tuesday developer conference held in China.
The company is adopting a 100W fast charging tech that can juice up a 4,000mAh battery within 17 minutes. The new tech was put side by side Oppo’s Super VOOC 50W fast charging technology. Xiaomi’s head shared a video on Weibo that indicates how fast the Xiaomi phone recharges.
However, it will take another while for this technology to come to Xiaomi smartphones, and this is yet the highest charging speed ever seen on a phone.
This June, Vivo showed off its newest charging tech that maxes at 120W. According to the firm, it can recharge half of a 4,000mAh battery within five minutes. Additionally, it takes only another eight minutes to juice up the remaining 50 percent of the battery.
At the same time, Vivo itself didn’t reveal the timeline for delivering this technology to phones or which model will come with this capability either. But from what rumors say, we expect the 120W fast charging capability in the maker’s 2020 flagship.
And since we haven’t got our hands on the technology and enjoyed it ourselves. Take a look at this video to see what Xiaomi’s 100W fast charging tech can do in 17 minutes.
