Google has officially released its mid-range smartphone, the Google Pixel 3a. Apart from the price and the cameras, what most people are curious about is what the letter “a” stands for.
There is nothing mysterious about the two other words. Google is the brand name; Pixel indicates that the smartphone is the next in line with its Pixel cousins, and the number 3 means you get some of the Pixel 3’s key specs with this phone.
The only thing that differentiates the newer phone with its Pixel cousins is the letter “a.” Since Google does not seem to be interested in elaborating on that. We must give our own speculations. Here are some of them:
Pixel 3 Average / Acceptable
The Pixel 3a is a cheaper version of the Pixel 3 so the “a” might stand for average. Another theory is it is short for acceptable, meaning people may find the sacrifice to get better cameras, operation system, and battery life acceptable.
Pixel 3 Affordable
Google’s selling point here is the price. No one can deny that Pixel 3 is an excellent smartphone, but many people have to pay top dollars to get one. This year, the company decides to change that. It launches a cheaper version of its flagship phone from last year, making many think that the “a” in its name stands for affordable.
Pixel 3 Another / Again / Also
The Pixel 3 was launched last fall, and the Pixel 3a was released roughly at the same time so it might be that Pixel 3a is another Pixel 3.
Pixel 3 Aux
The Pixel 3a has a headphone jack so it will spare you of the aux cord.
Pixel 3, Eh?
The Canadian usually add “eh” or ”ay” at the end of sentences. So if Google does have some people coming from Canada working onboard, the answer here might be a question a person may ask when they first see the phone, like:
As the two phones look so alike.
Nothing
It is possible that the letter “a” has no mysterious meaning whatsoever and we are just overthinking.
