As 5G is now a thing with many countries either have already had it or plan to apply it soon, more and more phones with access to this next generation of cellular network technology are being introduced. Rumor has it that Apple is planning to launch its 5G-compatible handsets in 2020. Recently, a new report surfaced and it provided more information on this plan. The report suggests that three of the company’s phones will be able to connect to the new network.
Last month, Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple’s next year 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone would feature 5G connection, while the more affordable 6.1-inch model would have access to LTE networks only, which is believed to be the successor of iPhone XR.
Now Kuo has another idea. This time, he said, all of the three models will be 5G compatible. Here is what he said:
Plus, Kuo also noted that the price of these handsets would be lower.
This new report was released a few days after Apple’s announcement that it was purchasing Intel’s modem business, but according to MacRumors, the iPhone maker could not cut tie with Qualcomm right away. The earliest time we can expect to see Apple-made modem is projected to be 2021.
Kuo said that Android phones would be compatible with the sub-6GHz version of 5G instead of the faster version, which is mmWave.
It seems like Apple is betting on the possibility of customers willing to pay a bit more to have access to 5G.
