Sony is reportedly working on adding a 5K display to the Sony Xperia 1R, the upcoming flagship smartphone of the company this year

Sony’s smartphone division is working really hard to gain a standing in the market. Their first attempt this year is with the cinematic 4K 21:9 display of Sony Xperia 1. And now, the company is reportedly working on adding a 5K display to the Sony Xperia 1R.

Sony Xperia has a 4K 21:9 display

Sony has a point when making the Xperia 1 an extra tall device. When users watch movies, the letterboxing will be no more. They will also have more real estate when it comes to gaming or scrolling. The 21:9 ratio is a good idea, but that cannot be said about the rest of the phone, especially the camera’s consistency and battery life.

Overall, the Xperia 1 is still one of the most exciting devices from Sony in the last few years. With the feedbacks of the weaknesses, now the company can fix what went wrong with its last offer.

Sony Xperia 1R might be the first smartphone to feature a 5K resolution. Other specs include a 6.5-inch OLED display, 21:9 aspect ratio, and 5040 x 2160 resolution.

The information about a 5K display is leaked by Japanese SumahoInfo. While no more detail is revealed, we can be sure that the Sony Xperia 1R will be a flagship device with a competent processor to match all of these dense pixels. The two prime candidates for this spot is the Snapdragon 855 and its Plus variant, plus lots of RAM.

With these new features, Sony Xperia 1R is more of an incremental upgrade than a whole new offer, hence the R letter. Sony usually saves its biggest announcements for Berlin-based IFA, so we have reasons to believe that it will be the case this year. 2019’s IFA will take place in the second week of September. Until then, we may hear more updates of the Sony Xperia 1R.
