As expected, Samsung will officially launch the Galaxy S20 series at the Unpacked event taking place on February 11. Besides, the Korean technology giant is also likely to introduce its next foldable phone Galaxy Z Flip in this event.
The Galaxy Z Flip will be the second foldable smartphone after Motorola Razr 2019 to feature a clamshell folding design. Although comes with a price of up to $1500 (around Rs. 1,06,700), Razr makes many users disappointed by only equipped with mid-range specifications. In addition, this phone might face fierce competition in the near future, because Samsung's upcoming foldable phone is expected to have a much stronger hardware configuration and also come at a cheaper price.
According to a report from Korean news site INews24, the Galaxy Z Flip will cost between KRW 1 million (around Rs. 61,000) and KRW 1,5 million (around Rs. 91,400). This price is significantly lower than the Rs. 1,60,700 price of Motorola Razr with an outdated Snapdragon 710 chipset. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip is expected to use the Snapdragon 855 chipset - which was featured on many high-end flagships last year.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip: Rumored Specifications
The Galaxy Z Flip is rumored to feature a 6.7-inch flexible screen, significantly larger than the Motorola RAZR’s 6.2-inch screen and comes with a similar clamshell folding design. In addition, this screen also has a cut-out at the top to accommodate a 10MP selfie camera.
This will be the first foldable smartphone to be equipped with a new type of glass covering the screen called Ultra-Thin Glass, replacing the plastic protective layer seen on the Galaxy Fold. This will help the device get more durable than the previous generation and limit scratches during use.
Inside, the device is expected to bring the hardware power from the high-end Snapdragon 855 processor, with a 1-inch secondary screen along with a dual-camera system on the back. The device could come with 2 batteries with a total capacity of 3,300mAh, which is larger than the 2,510mAh battery used on the Motorola Razr.
Samsung is reportedly aiming to sell 6 million foldable smartphones this year. This number will likely include sales of the current Galaxy Fold, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip and a new foldable smartphone model that could launch later this year.
