Rouyu has made history when it beat Huawei and Samsung and revealed the world’s first foldable smartphone. Yet, Rouyu Technology’s model will not get as polished or available as Huawei’s foldable phone or the Galaxy F.
In the following video, you will see the exact reason why handsets that have foldable displays seem so exciting. The video also illustrate that it is important for smartphone brands to find a way of giving users a convincing experience with the phone as well as to ensure these foldable phones feature top notch.
You may have no idea what the person in this video was saying, but the video itself is surely enough to deliver the whole story.
As can be seen in the clip, when the tester folds the screen, it looks very plasticky and a bit too shiny, which may pose some problems. Although this tablet-like handset works in both landscape and portrait modes, the screen seems not to give a good experience at all in terms of navigation and touch. Can you see the light bounce off the display’s surface? Seems like its surface is not as even and smooth as it should be, no matter on smartphone or tablet.
When folding the phone, the display remains outside, and you can switch between back and front screens seamlessly. One of the screens features a large bezel due to duel-lens camera.
The experience with this phone is nothing close to polished, there is also some jitters and lag when you switch the apps to the other screen. Moreover, the phone seem too big for your pocket, which is the initial reason for working on foldable phones.
Notably though, the device runs on the Snapdragon 8150 processor from Qualcomm, which is the Snapdragon 855’s new marketing name. This chip will also power some upcoming Android phones like the Pixel 4, OnePlus 7 and Galaxy S10.
After all, if such an unknown brand like Ruoyu Technology can produce a foldable phone, there is truly much to expect from giant smartphone makers like Huawei and Samsung.
According to Ice Universe on Twitter, there will be at least three foldable from MWC and CES, excluding the one that Samsung will release at its SDC18 developer event next month.
