Foldable phones are what the household names in the phone making sector are competing fiercely to gain the leading spot. Samsung and Huawei have revealed theirs, Xiaomi is hot on its heels with its version of a smartphone that can change its screen size.
Lenovo patented a foldable phone design that resembles a clamshell
Lenovo does not stand out from this competition though. It has come up with several ideas for this brand new smartphone line. Recently, the company patented a foldable phone design that resembles a clamshell.
The Patent
Lenovo submitted the files for this design in September 2018 during the Global Design Database. It includes 11 pictures. From what we can make out from the photos, the width of the device will fit the palm, and the bezels will be minimized to exude a modern appearance. On the top, there is a headphone jack and on the upper edge of the screen sits the camera.
When unfolded, the phone looks rather long, and the hinge is not fixed at one point like other foldable phones but has a few folding points so that users can adjust the length as they wish.
The hinge does not locate at the middle of the phone but is closer to the bottom
The hinge does not locate at the middle of the phone but is closer to the bottom. When users fold the phone up, the second display on the back will be revealed, which is expected to show notifications or time and date checking. The clamshell foldable phone will feature only one camera on the back.
Even when the phone is brand new, there will be a blur crease at where the hinge is.
Expected Availability
Lenovo may launch this foldable phone later this year. A subsidiary of the company, Motorola, is projected to announce its design of the smartphone line in June or July. Both the clamshell phones and those of Motorola may come at a price of less than US$ 1500
