According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone SE 2 will begin mass production from January and launch in late March 2020. Earlier, he had said the iPhone SE 2 will be released in the first quarter of 2020 at a price of US $399 (around Rs. 28,200).
The first-generation iPhone SE was announced on March 21, 2016, pre-orders began on March 24, and went on sale from March 31, 2016. Exactly one year later, on March 24, 2017, a new variant of the iPhone SE with double the memory was released. In addition, Apple also often has special events at the end of March.
iPhone SE 2 specifications are expected to include a 4.7-inch screen, Apple A13 chip like iPhone 11, 3 GB RAM, 64/128 GB storage, a Home button with Touch ID, no 3D Touch. It is tipped to be available in several hues including Space Gray, Silver, and Red.
Kuo also said that the iPhone SE 2 will have the same design as the iPhone 8 and believe that this will be an upgrade for those who are using iPhone 6, iPhone 6s.
In terms of sales, Kuo estimates iPhone SE 2's monthly sales will be between 2 and 4 million units. He also predicts that the iPhone SE 2 will have an LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) antenna to increase the connection and transmission efficiency.
According to several industry sources, LG is tipped to be in talks with Apple to supply LCD panels for the phone and they are being tested by Apple at a final stage before deciding to enter into a supply contract.
"iPhone SE 2" may not be the official name for the device and, Apple can name the new iPhone model with: "iPhone 8s" or "iPhone 9" because it has a 4.7-inch screen, much larger than the iPhone SE. If the device indeed packs a 4.7-inch display, it will not be as portable as the iPhone SE and that could disappoint fans of the phone.
