Huawei Y5 (2019) With Helio A22 & 5.71-Inch Dewdrop Notch Display Announced

The entry-level Huawei Y5 (2019) is officially launched. The handset has now been listed on the Huawei’s official website without details about its availability and price. The Huawei Y5 (2019) will not be launched as an Android go phone, but it will ship with the company’s EMUI OS instead. The phone will come in multiple color variants, including Midnight Black, Amber Brown, Sapphire Blue, and Modern Black.

This new entry-level smartphone will be offered in two memory configurations which are 2GB of RAM/16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM/32GB of storage variants. At its core, there is an octa-core MediaTek Helio A22 SoC built on the 12nm process and clocked at 2.0 GHz. Users can further expand its storage up to 512GB via a microSD card slot.

On the front, the phone comes packed with a 5.71-inch HD+ panel with significantly thick bezels and a screen-to-body ratio of 84.6 percent. However, it still follows the latest trend with a water-drop notch on top of the display. Huawei also said that it is TUV Rheinland certified for blocking harmful Blue light. On the rear, the company also provides a faux leather finish which is said to be wear-resistant and anti-fingerprint.

Moving to the imaging front, it has a single 13MP autofocus camera with an aperture of f/1.8 on the rear. Up front, the selfie duties are handled by a 5MP fixed focus unit with an aperture of f/2.2. As mentioned, instead of being an Android Go phone, the Huawei Y5 (2019) will still ship with the company’s EMUI 9.0 at launch which is based on Android 9 Pie. There is a 3,020mAh cell with no fast charging support. The battery is said to be able to power the phone for a 16-hour video session.

Its connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, a headphone jack, a micro-USB port, and 4G VoLTE. For security, it doesn’t have a fingerprint reader, but users can still unlock the phone using the Face ID feature.
