Huawei Mate 20X 5G debuted on July 26 in the Chinese market. The device is among 5G-enabled smartphones introduced this year. Several speculations have already appeared about the launch of the device. A few carriers even in the U.K expressed their willingness to sell this phone in spite of the debacle between the U.S government and Huawei.

The device is only available in Emerald Green colour variant with a rear matte finish. In addition, the rear panel also has a 5G logo. There are several clear differences between the vanilla Mate 20 X unveiled last year and the 5G-enable variant.

Regarding the internals, the phone is backed with a big 4,200 mAh battery, a bit smaller than the 5,000 mAh battery on the base Mate 20X. And the decline in the 5G variant’s battery capacity is due to the combination of the 5G antennas. However, the 5G-enabled smartphone has an adapter with the 40W fast charging tech support while the battery of the vanilla Mate 20X supports only 22.5W fast charging solution.
In addition, the smartphone is also equipped with a Balong 5000 modem which can reach 4.6Gbps peak download speeds in the low-frequency band of sub-6Hz. And it is known that the speed increases by 10X to hit the mark of 6.5Gbps if taking advantage of high-frequency band or millimeter-wave. However, the 5G connectivity is restricted to the initial SIM slot only. The second one is only limited to 4G connectivity.

The remaining specifications are similar to that of the Huawei Mate 20X 4G. Accordingly, the phone sports a big 7.2-inch Full HD+ (2,244 x 1,080 pixels) screen with a dewdrop notch, and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. In addition, the screen also has DC dimming, and DCI-P3 colour gamut, which helps protect the users’ eyes from detrimental blue rays that are produced by the display.
Under the hood, the phone comes with a Kirin 980 SoC, the first chipset produced on the 7nm process of Huawei. Besides, the SoC is also paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. In spite of the huge storage, users can still expand the storage of the phone to an additional 256GB by using a hybrid SIM slot. Meanwhile, the vanilla Huawei Mate 20X comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. In terms of software, the 5G-enabled smartphone runs Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.1. However, it is expected that the smartphone will become one of the first smartphones to run Android Q OS whenever it’s introduced. Also, the device supports the Game Turbo 3.0.

In the camera department, the Mate 20X 5G’s camera module is identical to the vanilla Mate 20X. Particularly, on the front, it sports a 24MP selfie shooter. On the back, the device sports a square-shaped triple camera module including a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a 20MP ultra wide-angle sensor. Additionally, the 20X 5G has a rear-aligned fingerprint scanner. Other connectivity options of the handset include USB Type-C port, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth v5.0 and Wifi 802.11. And no audio jack is found on this device.

Huawei has just announced the release of its 5G-enabled smartphone, Huawei Mate 20X 5G in the Chinese market. The phone is priced at CNY6,199 (roughly Rs. 62,000) and currently available for pre-orders via VMall. It is known that the phone will go on sales from 16 August.
