Asus’s last attempt to build a smartphone for gaming was a year ago and now it is reportedly planning for the second one, the ROG 2

Asus’s last attempt to build a smartphone for gaming was a year ago, and it was called simply the ROG phone. It was also the very first game-centric smartphone to be introduced in the Indian market.

Asus's first gaming phone was called ROG

Recently, a rumor surfaced on Weibo suggesting that Asus is planning to announce about the ROG 2 phone in July. This happens to match with a report released in April saying that the second version of ROG would be out before September.

What it is after is to conquer the rising gaming market in China. It also suggested that the ROG 2 would be Asus’s first attempt to the gaming and premium smartphone market.

Asus may collaborate with Tencent this time

Both reports did not say anything about the exact launching time of the ROG 2, but if the rumor is accurate, we will hear from Asus soon.

The estimated time also makes sense given the first ROG phone was launched in June last year. We have not yet heard anything on the updates to expect on this upcoming gaming phone either.

What the post on Weibo wanted to announce is the collaboration with Tencent – the company behind PUGB Mobile. However, it did not say any further on the partnership or how players can benefit from it.

Last year, Asus introduced the first ROG phone with 3D vapor-chamber cooling and Snapdragon 845 SoC at Computex. There is also a trigger button on it, so we have reasons to expect the same thing on the ROG 2.

ROG has a trigger button on it

Asus might be the first company to bring a gaming phone to India, but it does not guarantee the company a solid standing in this vast market or a competition-free launch. Ever since it released its ROG in November, some other smartphones catering to gamers have been introduced, like Nubia Red Magic 3 or Black Shark 2.
