Apple might be preparing for the complete removal of the notch on the iPhone in the next two years.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo on MyDrivers, at least one model of the 2020 iPhones would come with a smaller notch, thus giving users more display space.
According to an analyst at Credit Suisse, an investment firm, Apple would release a notch-less iPhone next year. That model is believed to feature an in-display camera and full-screen acoustic fingerprint authentication. That sounds like Touch ID that works anywhere on the screen.
Some people even claimed that all of the three iPhones would be notch-less in 2021. Apple is reportedly developing its own under-screen fingerprint sensor rather than utilizing a third-party technology.
After the supplier meeting in May, analysts from Barclays said that iPhones releasing in 2020 would have acoustic fingerprint technology, paving the way for full-screen Touch ID.
Ever since iPhone X was launched in 2017, the notch has been a controversial subject. Many people argue that it is an obstacle to achieve a completely edge-to-edge display. However, it is still too soon to believe in any of those reports. Apple may have these ideas in mind, but there is no guarantee that they will not have a change of heart.
A notch-less iPhone is gaining momentum, and we have reasons to believe in it. Earlier this year, AMS, one of Apple’s suppliers, released proximity sensor and under-screen ambient light. Xiaomi and Oppo have also shown their versions of under-display front camera.
Samsung also has its also idea of how to get rid of the notch. Their Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus have pill-shaped and circular camera modules.
We might have to wait and see Apple’s next move, but we are pretty sure that the notch will soon be gone.
