A Man Bought iPhone XS With Rs 1,07,200 Coins Carried In A Bathtub

A Russian man walked in an Apple store with a bathtub full of coin to buy the latest iPhone XS. What did Apple store clerk do?

The iPhone XS and XS Max are not only the newest offers from Apple but also the most expensive phones Apple has ever released.

While any store would be so pleased to hand these phones to users and get the money, it’s not the case for a store in Russia. The store and its staff actually got pretty frustrated in a story posted by Ludmila Semushina, head of an authorized Apple reseller in Russia, involving a group of men and a bathtub.

The customer, whose name was not revealed, walked in an authorized Apple store in Russia with a bathtub filled with coins, a group of men helped him carry the tub. He wanted to buy an XS with 256GB storage. The coins in his tub were worth 100,000 Russia rubles (equal to Rs 1,07,200) which was exactly how much the iPhone XS 256GB variant costs.

Notably, the customer and his coin-tub were not refused, the store’s clerk instead sat down and counted the coins. PhoneArena told that the man got to enjoy his new phone while the staff was busy counting. Whilst many customers who have limited budget choose to buy iPhone with EMI (equated monthly installment), this is probably one-of-a-kind story, amusing for the man, his bathtub and viewers, not so amusing for Apple and the clerk who had to do the coin counting.

From this incident, you may recall a rumor back in 2012. At that time, Samsung was reported to send 30 trucks carrying $1 billion in 5 cent coins to Apple headquarters. This rumor was spread after Apple won over Samsung in a lawsuit involving the patent infringement. Yet, the story was soon revealed to be false.

As fun as this bathtub story may sound to most of us, you had better not try this prank because the store manager may just decline to serve you.
