Have you ever tried to set your twitter account as private or posted a protected tweet with the thought that it can not be seen by anyone? If yes, you should keep yourself more alert as no matter your privacy setting is, all the social media platform like Twitter is never truly private.
To be more specific, when users enabled the feature "Protect your Tweets" and conducted seemingly unrelated adjustments to their accounts, updating email addresses, for example, they would trigger a bug that affected the app. It is worth noting that it only affected Android device users, those who use the social network on iOS or desktop platform were not impacted by this issue.
The "Protect your Tweets" setting, for those who don't already know, is a feature which can make your tweets private by allowing only your followers to see what you share on the account, and requiring your approval of any new follower.
According to the company, the flaw had been around for about 4 years, from 2014 until January of this year. The company also confirmed that they fixed this bug, cited Twitter Support's tweets:
Twitter further explained about this bug in its post on January 17:
In the end, Twitter also sent its apologies to all the company's customers who were affected and may have been inconvenienced by this bug. Moreover, the social media giant also promised that they would solve the problem root and branch.
