After his divorce, the CEO of Amazon could soon find himself moving down a few spots on the world’s wealthiest people list.
While Jeff dropped from his ranking as the richest man on Earth, his wife MacKenzie Bezos, on the other hand, might rocket up on the list.
With a massive asset of $137 billion, Jeff Bezos is currently at the top of the list. After the TMZ’s confirmation that the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement, together with the divorce laws of the Washington state, MacKenzie Bezos will receive half of $137 billion in a divorce settlement, which will be $68.5 billion.
When that happens, Jeff Bezos will drop to the number 4 spot on the world’s richest people list, according to the real-time billionaire index from Bloomberg. He will share this rank with MacKenzie Bezos who is not even on the list.
With a $68.5 billion net worth, the Bezos will rank higher than Amancio Ortega, a fashion retailer from Spanish whose net worth is $62.2 billion, but one spot lower than Bernard Arnault from France, who is also a fashion retailer with a total net worth of $62.2 billion.
After this, Bill Gates would get back his title as the richest person in the world, which he had held for over two decades, starting from the 1990s until last year when Jeff Bezos took his position. The fortune of Gates is about $93 billion.
Number 2 on the list would be Warren Buffett whose fortune is $80.8 billion.
In the meantime, a 50-50 asset division would leave MacKenzie as the world’s richest woman. She will outrank the heiress of L’Oreal, Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, who is at the 11th spot with $45.7 billion.
Every March, Forbes delivers the annual list of billionaires. If the Bezos’ divorce is finalized by that time, MacKenzie Bezos could make her grand entrance on the list.
