Samsung not only makes some of the best smartphones in the world, but it also creates some fastest storage. And now, the Korean giant says that it has begun mass production of 512GB flash memory for phones that reads twice and writes 1.5 times as fast as its predecessor, the 1TB module introduced at CES 2019 which was also made by Samsung.
The V-NAND, as it’s called, is based on eUFS (embedded Universal Flash Storage) 3.0 spec while the 1TB is based on eUFS 2.1. According to the company, the read speed of this 512GB memory can reach 2,100MB per second, that’s more than twice the speed of its 1TB flash (1,000MB per second). Additionally, while the new flash’s write speed can go up to 410MB per second, that of the 1TB flash is only 260MB per second. It is expected that Samsung will launch its eUFS 3.0 1TB memory in the latter six months of this year.
Considering the timing, we can tell that Samsung Galaxy S10 isn’t likely to feature the new, faster memory. However, when the Galaxy goes on sale at the end of this April, it will come with 512GB of internal memory, so the phone may use the eUFS 3.0 memory.
The technology will also come to micro SD cards
Furthermore, the eUFS will also extend to micro SD cards for phones.
Since late 2018, we have been getting a lot of news from Samsung, including new mid-range phones, flagship phones, and more. On February 20, the phone giant launched its Galaxy S10 series and unveiled the long-rumored Galaxy Fold. The S10 series consists of four phones, a more affordable S10e, the flagship S10 and S10 Plus, as well as the S10 5G which supports both 4G and 5G networks. While the S10e and S10 have a single front-facing camera, the other two feature a dual-front-camera setup in the shape of a pill located on the top right corner of the phone.
