The gallery that comes pre-installed on your smartphones is usually no looker. They are just another way you see the photos you have taken with minimal functions that can tempt you to spend more time on them.
However, users of OnePlus phones may soon have something more than that. The company is upgrading the gallery and, hold your breath, adding lots of AI-enabled features to improve the experience.
The highlights here are arguably the scene and face recognition features. They rely on AI and computer vision. And with the power of today’s smartphones, it is not exactly hard to have them on our handsets.
The scene and face recognition features are for organization purposes, helping you find what you need faster. For example, when you need to find photos with certain faces, they might cut the looking time short for users. It can also come in handy when you want to sort out photos with more scenes than people.
The face and scene recognition can be helpful for another function - auto-generated story albums. They are usually collections of photos that have something in common, like the day they were taken, people, or location.
OnePlus does not elaborate on these new features but they did say that Stories can only be generated when the screen is off and the phone is charged.
These additions, however minor, come together with HEIC format support and image sorting, making OnePlus Gallery stands out from the crowd.
The company is on the way to make Gallery a worthy rival of Google Photos, a prime example of a photo app with advanced AI support.
