Microsoft Corp. will start selling personal computer video games' subscription service, two years after launching a similar service for the Xbox console.
“Game Pass” is a subscription service for games on PC and it works similarly to the one for the Xbox console. Users, instead of having to pay for individual games, can now pay monthly fees and access more than 100 games on Windows 10.
Microsoft's new platform provides games of well-known studios like Bethesda with Sega and the "Elder Scrolls" series. Of course, games from studios acquired by Microsoft are also included. Just like on the Xbox, PC Game Pass will also add more games to the platform on the day of their releases.
Microsoft has not yet offered availability or pricing for this service. However, the company said that it would share more about this new service at the E3 game industry conference in Los Angeles next month.
This new service from Microsoft shows that the company is intent on attracting more gamers and especially those who are not console players. In addition, Microsoft is developing a game-streaming service known as xCloud. It will face extremely high competition from Apple and Google as these two giants also develop their own subscription and streaming video game services.
Microsoft is also expanding its channels to promote and sell its own games. The company said it will bring over 20 games from Xbox GameStudios to Steam, including "Halo" - Microsoft's core franchise.
