On July 22, Microsoft made an announcement on its $1 billion investment in OpenAI – an AI research company backed by CEO Elon Musk. Accordingly, the Redmond, Washington-headquartered company will team up with OpenAI to develop artificial intelligence (AI) and supercomputing technologies to the cloud computing platform – Microsoft Azure.

From now on, Microsoft will play a role as an exclusive cloud provider of Musk-founded company. Along with the collaboration, both of these companies expect to develop artificial general intelligence (abbreviated as AGI) – a technology is believed to equal or even exceed humans’ intellect.
OpenAI has recently published the news concerning its development of an AI technology which can win human gamers. However, this piece of news isn’t still as notable as some previous experiments. For example, AI can write lifelike fake news, as well as improve the robotic hands’ flexibility to a new level.
A few months ago, Elon Musk left OpenAI due to disagreements about the company’s pathway. In the beginning, he founded this company with the aim to control risks possibly caused by AI. Especially, the collaboration would help to research and improve some of this CEO’s most weird ideas. And attaching sensors into our brains is one of those. However, OpenAI has been developing in another pathway; and as a result, he decided to quit it.

OpenAI revealed in a press release that AGI is expected to handle a variety of issues relating to climate change, personalized education, as well as high-quality and affordable healthcare.
