The latest crash test of the 2018 Huyndai i20 shows that the model only got 3-star and 2-star rating for adult and child safety respectively.
Hyundai i20 has become well known since its inception and had a number of global sales over recent years. The sale figures might be due to the spectacular performance and a number of features the car offered. However, in term of passenger safety, the latest crash test of the 2018 Huyndai i20 model reveals a not really impressive result.
Recently, Global NCAP (new car assessment program) has crash tested the latest model of Indian-made Hyundai i20 which was exported to Africa market. The car achieved 3-star (10.15 out of 17) for adult in frontal crash test, which is carried out at a standard speed of approximately 64kmph. The safety rate was even lower at 2-star (18.16 out of 49) for child as the rear-seated. Global NCAP rates the car structure as well as the footwell area as unstable.
Hyundai i20 gets three stars rating means it lags behind Toyota Etios Liva and the VW Polo, both of them achieved four stars overall rating.
The inspection was conducted with the 2018 model of i20. Its kerb weight is 1286 kgs. This version is equipped with a four-channel ABS system, dual front airbags, a driver seatbelt reminder system and front seatbelt pretensioners. However, according to Global NCAP, the car posed threat to the front occupant’s knees due to the dangerous structures behind the dashboard. Driver’s knees were not fully protected as the car misses knee airbags.

The child protection only gets 2 stars because the child on then ISOFIX mount has a high risk for head. Although the car has an ISOFIX mount, the child was still pushed much forward. Therefore, the child safety is lower in comparison to the front occupants.
The crash test was conducted for the 2018 version i20 exported to South-Africa. The variant is manufactured and exported from the firm’s India plant.
