Indian users can now have more benefits from Google Maps as it has three new features to make public transport in the country more relevant, accurate, and reliable. According to Google, users in ten cities in India can see bus travel times live. In the near future, commuters can even see the status of inter-city trains. Those who usually travel by auto rickshaws can see the estimated auto fare in advance.
Bus Travel Times
Users of Google Maps can see bus travel time in real time. The system will calculate this based on the schedule and current traffic data. It also takes possible delays into consideration.
This feature is brand new, and except for India, there has not been any other country has it. People living in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Surat, Delhi, Chennai, Mysore, Coimbatore, and Pune can have access to this new feature.
Here is how you can use it. First, type in your whereabouts and destination, and then the transit tab.
Real-Time Train Status Updates For Long-Distance Trains
For people who travel by train, you can now check to see where it comes by entering the starting location and destination. The information will be updated in real-time too. The same action will also reveal the list of trains covering the same route. You will be able to see if any one of them is delayed.
This useful function was created with the help of Where is My Train, an app Google acquired last year.
Mixed-Mode Directions Results Now Include Auto Rickshaws
Users of Android can also see auto rickshaws when they access the public transport mode. They will know the time it takes for the journey and which station they should catch an auto rickshaw too.
The app will display the estimated fare users have to pay for the ride. This new function will be in Bangalore and Delhi before it comes to other cities.
