Google Advises Politicians To Upgrade The Security Level For Their Personal Accounts
Author - Oct 22, 2018
Google advises politicians and VIPs to register Google's Advanced Protection Program to upgrade the security level for their personal accounts againsts hackers.
According to Google, politicians and their staff are at risk of being attacked over email or personal accounts. Although they always care about security measures when using email accounts, personal accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc) are sometimes forgotten.
Why does Google advise politicians and other campaign managers to upgrade the security level for all of their accounts? Because both professional accounts and personal ones save confidential information which are attractive targets of hackers.
Some of the campaign managers and staff said they even didn't use their Gmail for work purposes; however, Gmail accounts are often used to register Facebook or Twitter accounts. Besides politicians, election candidates are also hackers' target.
In 2016, John Podesta - the campaign chairman working for Hillary Clinton claimed that his personal Gmail account was stolen 50,000 emails. Moreover, a lot of other politicians and candidates in Washington, DC have been at risk of phishing attacks.
In comparison with the professional accounts, personal accounts are clearly considered more vulnerable because they are not protected by IT pro-staff. That's a reason why hackers choose to attack personal accounts.
Google has developed some of the effective tools to protect users' personal accounts, like monitoring the suspicious login to Gmail accounts, searching for sensitive information including credit card numbers and financial information, and then contact with the account holders.
One of the most modern security measures Google brings to users is Google's Advanced Protection Program - This program is designed for politicians, reports, campaigners, or other important people to protect Gmail, YouTube as well as Google Drive.
