Elon Musk’s Boring Company Wins A $48M Contract To Build The Las Vegas Loop

The underground transport system of the Boring Company will be used a loop connecting the ends of the convention center with each other within the one-mile road.

On May 22, Elon Musk’s Boring Company just gained the approval of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) for a $48.6M contract that allows it to build transport tunnels underneath the ground at this city. With these tunnels, the authorities hope to take passengers to the convention center on driverless electric vehicles. The project is estimated at $52.5 million.

The underground transport system will be used a loop connecting the ends of the convention center with each other within the one-mile road.

According to the Boring Company, it is expecting to partner with the Las Vegas leaders “who have a vision for transportation.” As per the LVCVA, the authorities will "continue to elevate the experience of our visitors with innovation, such as with this project, and by focusing on the current and future needs of our guests."

In March, the LVCVA said that the Boring Company would be the one to build the high-speed underground tunnel system that will expand to 200 acres in two years, right before the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) begins. The project will connect many locations in Las Vegas with each other, such as the convention center, McCarran International Airport, and the Boulevard Resort Corridor.

Pursuant to the contract, the transport system will go into operation by 2021. However, according to Musk’s tweet in March, he seemed to make the system “operational by end of the year.”

Referring to the Boring Company, you are talking about high-speed underground tunnels. In 2017, Elon Musk revealed his intention to construct a tunneling machine that would form a transport system underneath the ground.

After that, in December, the Boring Company under the leadership of the talented CEO opened the first test trench under the headquarters of SpaceX in Hawthorne, California. In addition, he also intends to construct a tunnel that connects the western locations to Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, as well as establish a 35-mile road from Washington DC to Baltimore.

At present, his company has signed a contract with the Chicago Infrastructure Trust (CIT) to create a high-speed tunnel system to the O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
