The popular smartwatch of Apple is getting an update. During the Time Flies event, Apple unveiled its new Apple Watch Series 6. The event is held annually in fall to reveal new products. Along with the Apple Watch, Apple also revealed the latest iPad, Apple One services, and the Apple Watch SE.
Let’s first talk about the Apple Watch Series 6. The smartwatch has a key new health sensor and features that help using the gadget with kids easier. With the new sensor, it takes the smartwatch only 15 seconds to measure a wearer’s blood oxygen level. And according to Apple, the tracking even runs in the background.
New services focused on wellness and family were introduced. There is a new service called Fitness Plus that costs $9.99 per month. The service offers weekly workout routines.
Family Setup feature will allow parents to set up the watches of their children to track their location as well as control who they communicate with using iMessage. To use this feature, you will need to have an Apple Watch with cellular. However, your child doesn’t need to have an iPhone.
Consumers can already pre-order the new Apple Watch. Apple Watch Series 6 price is $399.
Typically, Apple will announce a new iPhone at this time of the year. However, this year, the date is expected to be in October. The new device is said to be the first iPhone to have superfast 5G wireless technology.
The WatchOS 7 will also be released alongside the new smartwatch. The biggest changes include capabilities to change watch faces and share those you make. There will be new programming to track your sleep.
A wealth of new bands were announced as well, including a “Solo Loop” band style. There isn’t any buckle or clasp on this band. And it is made of silicone.
You will have to stretch the band a little when putting it on and taking it off. There are twelve different size options. To find your size, there is a printable tool that you can access on Apple’s website.
The price of the Solo Loop is $49.00. It comes in Deep Navy, Pink Citrus, Ginger, Cyprus Green, Black, (PRODUCT) RED, and White.
In the same style, there is also a “Braided Solo Loop.” However, it is made using recycled yarn. At $99.00 the strap comes in five colors including Inverness Green, Atlantic Blue, (PRODUCT) RED, Pink Punch, and Charcoal.
Both the new straps can be used with the Apple Watch Series 4 or newer and Apple Watch SE. With 40mm cases, you can use sizes one through nine while with the 44mm cases, you will have to use sizes four through 12.
Because of environmental concerns, Apple announced that the USB power adaptor would be removed from Apple Watch boxes from now on.
This means that Apple Watch customers when buying the new smartwatches won’t receive the device plugging into the wall. However, the custom Apple Watch cable will still come with the box.
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, this move might include upcoming iPhones. In October, apple may organize a live-stream event for its new iPhone where it could announce that no USB power adapter will be included in the box.
Alongside the watch Series 6, Apple also unveiled the Apple Watch SE, a more affordable alternative. The price is $279, which is perfect for those who can’t afford the flagship wearable. Although the smartwatch doesn’t have the faster S6 processor of the sensor to measure blood oxygen like the new flagship, it still has the most essential features.
The Watch SE still has the same compass, altimeter, gyroscope, and accelerometer like the Series 6. Even emergency SOS and fall detection are available. If you want to leave your phone at home, there are cellular models to choose from.
The S5 chipset that the smartwatch has is fairly new and is expected to offer similar performance levels to the Series 5. The Watch SE will also run WatchOS 7 like the Series 6, so you can still have features like VO2Max and sleep tracking.
