A space company called Lynk recently got a remarkable milestone in the communication field as it successfully sent the first SMS message from space to an Android smartphone after connecting a satellite orbiting around the Earth to the phone on the ground.
The achievement of this aerospace startup is expected to help itself make one step closer to the ambitious mission that aims to directly provide broadband connection to billions of mobile phones worldwide.
According to Lynk CEO Charles Miller, his company has made the impossible dreams possible, citing that the game-changing achievement could be beneficial to billions of people who either own mobile phones or affordable connectivity. Miller added that all devices will soon stay Internet-connected everywhere in the near future.
Prior to the founding of Lynk, Charles Miller has worked in the space industry for 30 years. The entrepreneur also held a bunch of senior positions at NASA. He once was responsible for acting as a senior advisor for the commercial space plans of NASA.
With the technology from Lynk, cell phones won’t have to feature high-end software or hardware to access the cellular network via earth-orbit Nano-satellites, enabling people in remote locations and isolated areas to approach a stable network. All the processes were successful thanks to its homegrown technology called "cell tower in space".
Up to now, Lynk has partnered up with several companies in the telecom industry in quest of rolling out the first commercial product in the near future. According to Miller, the company has stroke necessary bargains with regulators before bringing its service to tens of millions of people.
