A Facebook Issue Causes PUBG Mobile & Many Other iOS Apps To Crash

Facebook's SDK has just caused a massive issue that leads to multiple apps like Spotify, PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty: Mobile to crash right after users try to open them.

According to multiple reports on social media, a series of apps on iOS are inaccessible due to a now-resolved issue involving Facebook log-ins. Those apps immediately crash right after users try to open them.

This problem is affecting a large number of users, as the number of apps that are experiencing problems is increasing. The affected apps include many popular names like Spotify, Tinder, PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Reddit.

Through our research, the problem that caused a series of iOS apps to crash is not caused by Apple’s iOS, but by ... Facebook. To be more specific, its SDK (software development kit) on iOS is having problems, causing all apps that use the SDK to crash. In case you don’t know, many apps use Facebook's SDK to manage their user logins.

One of the most popular features of the Facebook's SDK that many programmers put into their apps is "Login with Facebook". Even if users do not have the app installed or even do not have a Facebook account, the apps that use the SDK will still crash. However, it seems the issue is only happening in iOS platform as it doesn't happen with the same apps on Android.

Facebook already acknowledged the issue on its developer platform and its software is indeed the one causing the problems. We are aware and investigating an increase in errors on the iOS SDK which is causing some apps to crash,” said the social media. Many developers have gone to a GitHub thread and reported the issues with their apps and they blamed Facebook for that. This is not the first time its SDK has caused similar issues. On May 6th, a similar problem occurred and also affected multiple services for nearly a day. And yes, it occurred only on iOS platform.

Update: Facebook has just marked the problem with its SDK as “resolved”
