2 Lakh Indian Women In These Three States Can Learn STEM Skills From IBM

IBM was committed to overcoming gaps caused by the lack of STEM skills in the Indian market as well as the global market. Of which, training women and girls in STEM fields is the top priority.

According to the latest announcement from IBM, the multinational information technology company plans to train two lakh Indian women in four following skills including science, technology, engineering, and math (also known as STEM skills). One of the major targets both IBM and state governments in India aim to is to increase the number of female participants in jobs relating to STEM.

On March 18, IBM made agreements with three states including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. In addition, the company plans to broaden the scope of this 3-year programme to many other states in the upcoming months.

Along with the development of advanced technologies like clouding computing or artificial intelligence (AI), Indian employees will have to equip with themselves higher qualification to meet all vital demands in the present and future careers.

The company also wants to bring “new collar careers” to the international workforce. The IBM India Skills Forum that was held in New Delhi on March 18 witnessed a series of the initiatives between IBM and the three Indian states. Of which, training women and girls in STEM fields is the top priority.

Among these initiatives, an Advanced Diploma Programme is the two-year project in which IBM partners with the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship to create more technologies. In the next 03 years, 50 women among 100 Industrial Training Institute students will have a chance to approach these techs.

In the near future, Indian women will have more opportunities to participate in STEM fields.
