The Panasonic VR glasses look absolutely unique. They look like a normal pair of glasses with a dash of a steampunk aviator style.

The Panasonic VR glasses, when compared to other VR headsets, look absolutely different. They have the appearance of a normal pair of glasses combined with a steampunk aviator style.

The glasses also bring to the table technical improvements. Panasonic partnered with Kopin to develop the micro OLED panels which are exceptionally high resolution. The “screen-door effect” that often happens with most VR hardware almost doesn’t affect the wearer. The Panasonic VR glasses are the first to support HDR. Many found it to be impressive.

The headset is equipped with Panasonic’s audio technology, with Technics drivers for rich and dynamic sound. According to the company, optical designs used in Lumix camera division and signal processing technologies used in the company’s TVs and Blu-ray players were also used.

However, there are still some limitations to the prototype of the glasses. The micro OLED panels are smaller when they could have been bigger. The front of the glasses is a little bit heavy, which could lead to them sliding down the wearer’s nose when they tilt forward. Meanwhile, the non-functioning mockup is significantly lighter.

The pair of VR glasses are not likely to be sold as a consumer product. Rather, it will serve commercial applications when 5G networks are available like VR sports and virtual travel. Japanese companies are particularly interested in this kind of thing with the Tokyo Olympic Games as the prime example.

The demo has proved that it is definitely possible to make VR glasses that look better and have better quality.
