According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) report on Thursday, the personal computer market in India has shrunk for three consecutive quarters. HP Inc continued to be in the leading position in this market with a market share of 28.1% in the first quarter of this year.

With shipments of 2.15 million units in the Q1 of 2019, the personal computer market (PC) observed a year – on – year (YoY) decline of 8.3%. Although HP Inc is the market leader, it also has a YoY decrease of 9.7%. This is mainly because the customer segment has dropped by 21.3% in the first quarter of 2018.

Dell Inc. continued to rank second in the Indian PC market with 25.9% market share. Dell Inc's YoY growth was 2.2% and its quarter – on – quarter (QoQ) was 26.7%. Standing in the third place is Lenovo which has a 25.2% market share in the first quarter of this year. Lenovo's year – on – year growth in the Indian PC market is 6.2% while the sequential growth is 29.2%.
According to IDC, the traditional personal computer market in India is still quite low outside the major commercial deals. Because consumer demand is still quite weak, plus high inventories from previous quarters. Additionally, the problem with the Intel chip supply is also one of the reasons for the decline in this market.

The notebook category accounted for 61.4 percent of shipments in the Indian PC market. Its YoY reduction is also 9.8%. However, the ultra-slim notebook category has increased by 86.5% and accounted for 25.3% market share. Bharath Shenoy, a personal computer market analyst at IDC India, said the number of ultra-slim computers was high because of their improved mobility and highly-rated aesthetics.
