The Almost Forgotten AirPower Finally Goes Into Production

According to ChargerLab, Apple will actually start producing its Air Power wireless charging pad this January.

Reports say Apple has finally started producing AirPower. Alongside the iPhone X launch, the device was announced in September 2017, which will allow simultaneous charging for three iPhones. The company said it would launch the wireless charger in 2018, and we didn’t see it come out.

Back in 2017 when Apple released the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X, it said the three phones supported wireless charging which will go with a device called AirPower. The company also revealed that it was working with Qi on this device.

Apple has since said nothing else. However, as reported by ChargerLab, the wait is almost over as Luxshare Precision has begun the production of Apple’s wireless charging pad.

This is the same manufacturer that makes USB-C cables and AirPods for the iPhone maker. Luxshare Precision also confirmed that AirPower is set to go in mass production on January 21 at Pegatron, a Taiwan-based electronic manufacturing company.

The device would reportedly allow wireless charging for iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch is a rare miss for Apple. Rumors said that the company ran into some challenges while internally developing this device, which caused the delay in production and market release.

A year after its announcement about the AirPower, other than its latest iPhone launch, Apple no longer talked about the device. At that time, John Gruber – an Apple writer – said the AirPower perhaps had an overheating issue and was canceled. What he meant was when charging a triple of devices at the same time, the AirPower might have got too hot.

Apple has not mentioned how much it will price the device either.
