When it comes to fitness tracking, users have a slew of choices, from a full-functioned smartwatch to budget fitness trackers that are within reach of more people.
The Samsung Galaxy Fit e is by far the company’s most budget-friendly model on the market right now. It has all the basics and even heart rate and sleep tracking features. However, at this price point, you may have to sacrifice something, as nothing can be this cheap without some compromises.
When compared to Samsung Galaxy Fit, the Fit e lacks the wireless charging, ability to reply to phone messages, and color screen.
Samsung Galaxy Fit e Price And Release Date
In India, Samsung Galaxy Fit e is priced at Rs 2,590. The model is only available in specific markets, so you had better take advantage of this low cost to get one if you need a fitness tracker but do not want to break the bank.
Design And Display
At this price point, no one can expect the best material or the most premium feel, but overall, the Samsung Galaxy Fit e is quite appealing to the eyes.
You get to choose to acquire the tracker in black, yellow, or white. While the band is rubber, it does not make you feel irritated after activities like a morning run or a football match.
The fastening mechanism is quite brilliantly designed. It allows users to fasten and unfasten it in a matter of seconds.
You can tell that the heart rate monitor and some other sensors are there, but it does not make the device looks ugly. Some might even find it appropriate to wear the Samsung Galaxy Fit e to formal meetings.
There is no wireless charging on this device so you will have to use a USB charger. Users can charge it via a charging station, a laptop, or an adaptor, which is not included in the box.
Instead of the color screen on the Galaxy Fit, you get a monochrome on this Galaxy Fit e. This is a compromise for the low price, but the screen does a decent job displaying all the statistics, so there is no complaint here.
While it is not a touchscreen, you can still tap it to switch among stats. When you lift your wrist, the tracker will light up.
Under bright sunshine, the screen is hard to read, but this is by any mean, an issue limited to Samsung devices.
Performance, Fitness, And Features
When it comes to performance, Samsung Galaxy Fit e does what it needs to do well. The statistics closely match what we got on Google Fit.
The most significant downers are the slow reaction when you start moving and the overestimated record of footsteps. However, since most people will only need estimation, these issues are not exactly deal-breaker.
The heart rate tracking feature is accurate, but it will only work when you exercise; unless you add the widget to get heart rate watch face. Doing this and the battery will be drained at a quicker rate.
The heart rate stats are for training guidance rather than a reliable input for research, but you get what you pay for. The Galaxy Fit e is ten times cheaper than an Apple Watch after all.
You get to choose what on display on the screen, from calendar, weather forecast, calories, steps, to heart rate. Everything is straightforward and easy to see.
At the weight of just 15 grams, the Galaxy Fit e is so lightweight that you may not even notice that it is there.
You get 90 different activities to track on the tracker and the health apps, which can cover for most people out there.
Now here are the things the Galaxy Fit e lacks. There is GPS, so if you want to keep an eye on your location, you had better bring your phone along. There is not much storage and music playback either.
The tracker will work automatically when you run, walk, or workout; but for other activities, you will have to access the app and tell it what you intend to do.
With 5ATM water resistance, the tracker can survive accompanying you to the shower or to the pool, but scuba diving will break it.
Sleep Tracking
Sleep tracking on Galaxy Fit e is accurate enough for most people, just like heart rate. The device will keep track of your movement and provide you with information on how much sleep you get, but that is it.
Battery Life
You will last a week with ease between charges. The more you use it, the quicker the battery drains, so it depends on your habits. The lack of fancy color screen and some other more advanced features turn out to bring at least one thing good, a longer battery life.
Even when you push it hard, the Galaxy Fit e can still hold up for three to four days.
The tracker can be topped up quickly too. However, one significant disadvantage here is that you cannot check the battery life on the tracker itself but have to open the app to get this information.
Apps
If you do not have a Samsung smartphone, you may need to download some apps to get started with the Galaxy Fit e, the Galaxy Wear app to sync your smartphone with the band, and the Samsung Health app to store statistics. These two apps present data in a simple to understand way, so there is no complaint here.
In the Wear app, you get to change the watch face, switching between six options, and choose what the watch will display. For notifications, you will set everything with this app too.
In the Samsung Health app, you get to see active time, steps, heart rate, calories burnt, and many more. You can put in information on your activities and even what you have consumed.
Verdict
Samsung Galaxy Fit e is a steal at the price of Rs 2,590.
The appearance is appealing, the heart rate and sleep tracking features are accurate, and the apps’ content is clearly presented.
If you are on the market for an affordable fitness tracker, the Samsung Galaxy Fit e fits the bill. If you have already had a Samsung phone, all the more reason to pick this tracker.
