Nvidia Turing was introduced in 2018 with a promise of ray tracing in games and high performance. It has kept its word. And this year, we welcome the Super series, so let’s see what they can do, by looking at one of them, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super.
Price And Availability
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 comes at the price of Rs 52,500 in India. This is a little bit high in comparison with the previous one, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070. This year, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super will set you back Rs 43,600. So if you are on the market, this one is worth checking out.
Features And Chipset
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super delivers a new take on the Turing architecture to make it more useful for the general public. Nvidia said that its Turing is the most advanced GPU architecture in the world, having real-time ray tracing, and AI capabilities. The 2,304 CUDA cores in Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 is now replaced by 2,560 CUDA. The Super series also enjoy higher clocks of 1,770MHz.
It is not sure if the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super has more Tensor Cores and RT than its non-super cousin, but we can count on its more superior tracing performance of 7 Giga Rays. These two enhancements translate to a higher power requirement of 215 Watts.
The only feature Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super have in common is the memory. Users will still enjoy 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM on this Super lineup.
About the appearance, overall, this Super representative looks somewhat like the Nvidia Turing Founders Edition cards, except for the chrome design under the logo, which contributes to the shiny look of the card. Those who have a case that allows people to see it will appreciate this feature, but those who do not might not see the point of having a better-looking card.
One of the most significant downers is the weight. Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super is heavy, meaning the motherboard will have to endure more PCIe support.
Performance
The increased CUDA cores coupled with higher clock speeds are supposed to enhance the overall performance of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super, at least, make it better than the RTX 2070.
To have a more accurate assessment on the performance of the card, it will have to be put through a full ringer of benchmark tests. While no one has had the chance to do that, we did have some time playing games with it, and we were impressed.
Here is what we did. With Metro Exodus, we have an average of 70 frames per second and 1440p. All the options for graphics were Ultra, ray traced global illumination and DLSS were on, and the gameplay was super smooth.
With Shadow of the Tomb Raider, DLSS and ray tracing on, the performance began to show signs of going down. It was still an improvement but we could not have anything higher than 50 fps.
Early Verdict
With the price of Rs 43,600 and better performance, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super is a more appealing deal than the Nvidia Turing. Those who own a Turing might not need to switch to this one, but if you are looking for a capable card and value for your money, the RTX 2070 Super fits the bill.
